Little Monsters Business
Lady Gaga might be one of the most successful business women out there. Wait, do I mean Lady Gaga the Grammy winning singer? And yes I do mean Lady Gaga, the woman who arrived at the last Grammy Awards in an egg.
While watching a show on Mtv.com a commercial for Google Chrome came on featuring Lady Gaga. (Seen here) In this commercial, Lady Gaga is reaching out to all her millions of "little monsters" or fans. To think that millions of people will put their "paws" up for her and dress like her and just want to be like her is astounding. They post YouTube videos, dance her dances, sing her songs, have Monster meetings, aspire to be her, and some even worship her. Her music is a success, having several hit #1 on Billboard's Top 100, having millions and millions of views on Youtube, selling thousands of digital copies of her CDs, and earning herself Grammy Awards.
Lady Gaga has created herself as a brand, as "Mother Monster".
This holiday season, Lady Gaga is taking over the Barney's flagship store in New York City. The entire 5th floor will be decorated in Monster-like theme aspiration from her latest album "Born This Way". Cookies, apparel, accessories, and the works of Lady Gaga will all be on sale. 25% of these purchases will be going toward Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation she recently just started. This foundation aims to "youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development and will utilize digital mobilization as one of the means to create positive change."
It is amazing to see how fast and how huge Lady Gaga has become in a worldwide. She has become a phenomenon and creating Little Monsters all over the world. Paws up for Lady Gaga, Paws up.

I definitely agree with your post that Lady Gaga is a great business woman. She had branded herself so well that she stands out from the rest of the crowd not only in style but also her music. She has been able to connect to her audience on a different level then most musicians can and has created a great following. In a short period of time, she has become and icon and a role model to a lot of the youth. She is a smart business women in the sense that with this holiday line of merchandise, she is taken advantage of her current fame and making money off her celebrity status.
ReplyDeleteLady Gaga is definitely a smart business woman. In a world where the entertainment industry churns out look-a-likes more often than not Gaga created a brand that is both iconic and long lasting. If you watch her youtube videos from her time at NYU she plays at coffee houses in regular clothes and is quite good. However, good she may have been she needed to set herself apart from the rest of the singers trying to make it and she definitely succeeded in this task. I give credit to Gaga for always being over the top and never being caught wearing regular clothes- she truly lives and breaths her brand.
ReplyDeleteTo see what has become of Lady Gaga is truly astounding. Although some, if not most of the time I question her decisions, she goes to prove that the best thing that a person can be is themselves. She has established herself not only as a business woman, but also as an artist who has proven to be like no other (insert her wardrobe choices). She doesn't fall into the whole "sexy pop-star" that many artists aim to be. She has her own unique style and personality which makes her stand out and be seen. It is wonderful to see that an artist with her magnitude is using her celebrity to do good. Lady Gaga has always been an advocate of staying true to who you are despite what others may think of you.
ReplyDeleteLady Gaga is an example of a rise to the top star who still remains responsible. Her wild self branding is in a sense what gained her popularity in comparison to her dime a dozen pop star counterparts. It takes a lot of courage to be so different and use it as an advantage. There is no mistake that she ras raw talent, but the fact that she has used her fame and the fortune that comes with it, to surround herself with smart business people. In a way, Lady Gaga reminds me of rapper 50 Cent who used his earnings to invest in companies like Vitamin Water. I congratulate the people who use their money wisely and invest in business in comparison to the many who lose their entire net worth in a matter of months. Props to her and her out of the box way of life.
ReplyDeleteYour post exposes a star that utilizes her power to make an impact on society.Lady Gaga is not only a successful businesswoman, but someone who truly cares for her fans. The fact that she is donating a portion of her sales to her "Born This Way" foundation is amazing. This should serve as an example for other stars. Most of your success as a star relies on your fan base. Her genuine investment in her fans will result in long term success.
ReplyDeleteThough I am not the hugest fan of Lady Gaga and I know I am not alone on that, I do agree that she knows how to make a buck. She has created a unique and eclectic public persona that I feel like people are so intrigued by and that's why they keep paying attention. I also do really like how Gaga always has an important message. Even if not all her songs are top 40 material, she stays true to what she believes in, and the success she has gotten out of this is inspiring.
ReplyDeleteFunny post! I am definitely agreeing with you that she was out for business in the first place. She has created a brand, a niche, that is absolutely very individualized and no one has ever seen anything like it. People who are trying to adapt her looks are getting a slap in the face and people that goes against her just don't know what they are talking about... Well, I am personally not a huge Lady Gaga fan but I am very impressed with how she has been able to market herself throughout so many years of music and to establish such a fan base that feels like they are related to her and that they need her, in a kind of way. This ultimate fan-business deal at Barney's is just one evidence to show that Lady Gaga is the Queen of "weirdness" and she can do whatever she wants to spread her fame even more.
